Technocrati

Filed under: twentytwentythree — michael @ 12:56 am

It seems that Technocrati has started indexing my blog. I don’t really know anything about Technocrati, but I guess this must mean I’ve been sucked in the blogosphere. And now I get 20 or 30 spammy comments per day. I’m getting tired of deleting them all so from now on you’ll have to register before you can post comments. Sorry.

Still Here

Thank you everybody for being nice to me. I think I was just having a bad day on Sunday. I’m not really going to stop blogging.

Random news: Sarah Harmer tickets are going on sale Friday morning! I finally got some movie editing software working on my computer (thanks, Peter) and I finished making a short video. I bought a rice cooker and a big jar of sambal today.

I’m going to stop posting stuff here for a while. Sorry, but I’m just not enjoying it right now.

ROFL. Overtired, maybe.

I can’t seem to get enough of Chelsea Peretti. I laughed for five minutes straight when I read this post on her blog. The Variety Shac really makes me laugh too.

The Human Race

Filed under: twentytwentythree — michael @ 6:55 pm

Stephen Hawking asked a question on Yahoo Answers the other day: How can the human race survive the next hundred years? I already submitted my answer, along with 17000 other people. I wonder which one will be selected as the “best answer.”

The League of Awesomeness

I’ve been watching Ze Frank’s the show for the past three or four weeks and can’t wait for the episodes to come out every day. I especially like the ones with songs in them, and when he talks about ethics and technology. If I had way more time, maybe my blog would be as good as Ze’s. Actually, no it wouldn’t. He’s pretty good.

Hard Drive Failure

Filed under: twentytwentythree — michael @ 10:01 pm

Grrr. My hard drive died last night and my last backup was in December 2004. I could have sworn I had a backup from 6 months ago, but no such luck. I’ve even been meaning to buy a dvd burner for the past week or two and back everything up just in case something like this happened. I would say it’s a bit ironic but it’s not really. It’s more like me being stupid.

So far I’ve been able to figure out that BIOS won’t recognize the drive unless it’s jumpered a slave (cable select doesn’t work), and that the Linux kernel thinks it has a bad superblock. I hope I can somehow recover at least some of my files, but it doesn’t look very promising.

I’m glad I had one of these Knoppix CD’s lying around so I can use my computer until I buy a new hard drive. If anybody has sent me any email in the past 18 months, can you please re-send it 😉

Tripod Leecher

Filed under: twentytwentythree — michael @ 2:24 am

I just noticed that somebody cut and pasted one of my web pages into their own tripod site. They didn’t even bother to change the title from “my” grandmother’s beigli recipe, and they are leeching my beigli photo off of Peter’s web server! I guess that’s just the way the web works. After all, I download copyrighted stuff all the time. I don’t think it’s the copying that bothers me, it’s that she’s claiming the recipe and photo are her own. Hmph.

Syberia II. X-Men III. Mouse Button IV.

I went to see the new X-Men movie the other day and enjoyed it quite a bit. I didn’t know about it at the time, but apparently there is a 30-second scene after the end credits which hints pretty strongly that there will be a fourth movie. Thanks to the magic of the internet I managed to track down and download the extra scene [1.2MB AVI]. Background information is here. Don’t click on either of those links unless you’ve already seen the movie.

I finished playing Syberia II today and wish there was another game in that series. The graphics were much better than in the first game but the story had a few gaping holes in it. I still liked it very much though. One thing this game has made me start doing is double-clicking on everything. In the game, if you click somewhere on the screen Kate will stroll over to that spot and if you double click she’ll jog. Sometimes I even found myself triple-clicking when I was impatient. Yesterday at work I was showing a co-worker a bug that I had found in one of our products and I quadruple-clicked on a Windows button! Wow. I’m going to have to unlearn that habit fast! [I’m also going to have to change the font for this blog. I’m not sure what this WordPress default font is (Lucida Grande? Verdana?), but it puts the first two letters of the word “click” a bit too close together!]
